To solve triangles, you first need to establish the labels of the sides. Since you already have 15° for an angle, use that angle to label. The longest side is always the hypotenuse (across from the right angle). The one opposite your angle (5) is the opposite side, and the remaining one (x) is the adjacent.

Now, to find x, you need to set up a ratio involving it and your other given side, the opposite. The correct trig ratio for this is going to be Tangent (\frac{Opposite}{Adjacent}). Set the Tangent of your angle equal to its ratio.

tan(15) = \frac{5}{x} Now, get x by itself and solve like a regular equation
x(tan(15)) = 5   Divide by tan(15)
x = \frac{5}{tan(15)}   Plug this into a calculator
x = 18.660

x ≈ 18.7

So, the correct answer is 2 .

The correct answer is 18.7.

So I kind of went an indirect way but I can explain it all. I ignored the 15°. The box in the right correct means that angle is 90°. Since a triangle is always 180°, I subtracted 90 and 15 from 180. That gives you 75°. Now that you know that you can use tangent from SOH CAH TOA. So... tan75= x/5 which turns into 5tan75°. Plug that into a calculator and you get 18.66 which rounds to 18.7.

If you need anymore help I'm here. Hope I helped :) Good luck!

1. the answer is 24. think of x as the original amount, and y as the new amount. y times 1.5 is x, and y+12 is x. reverse that to figure out y, which is what we need, and you have x/1.5 = y as well as x-12 = y. Use the equal values method and make an equation x/1.5=x-12. solve this equation to get x, which is 36. to figure out the new amount, y, you need to subtract 12, which would help you get 24 as your final answer.

2. once again, create an equation. let's call team 1 x and team 2 y. team one has 1/4th as many as team 2, so that would be x=1/4y. An easier way to write that is 4x=y. after 6 people quit team two, that would be y-6. after the transfer, that would be y-6-12, and x+12 for the teams. they are equal after these, so y-6-12=x+12. solve this equation to get y-18= x+12. if you recall earlier, y was 4 times x, so substitute that into y to get 4x-18=x+12. Solve the equation to get 10 people on team one originally. your final answer is 10 people.

The sum of three consecutive numbers is 46. Find the
Citrus2011 [14]

Let the three consecutive number be x,x+1 and x+2.

It is given sum of three consecutive numbers is 46.

So,x+x+1+x+2=46

3x+3=46.

Subtracting 3 both sides

3x=46-3

3x=43.

x= \frac{43}{3}.

Since \frac{43}{3}. is not an integer there is no true answer to this problem.

Hector works 12 hours per week at a part-time
iren [92.7K]

Answer:

b. $2.50

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us take a step by step approach by simplifying each sentence:

Sentence 1: Hector works 12 hours per week at a part-time  hours per week at a part-time job

Number of hours worked per week  = 12hours

Sentence 2:  His original pay rate was $8.00 per hour. but he recently received a raise of x dollars per hour

   Pay per hour is 8hr, a raise of x gives 8 + x

Sentence 3: New total wage  = 12(8+x)

Sentence 4: Amount earned last week  =  $126

  New total wage = Amount earned last week

               12(8 + x ) = 126

                 96 + 12x  = 126

                          12x  = 126 - 96

                           12x  = 30

                             x = $2.50

Amount of raise is $2.50
