Answer:

Pulling apart or separation of sister chromatids

Explanation:

Meiosis is a type of cell division that results in four daughter cells with each having half number of chromosomes as the parent cell. It is the cell division that leads to formation of gametes to enable sexual reproduction. Division occurs twice during meiosis because before the two halves of a duplicated chromosome called sister chromatids separate, it still needs to separate homologous chromosome, which is a similar but non-identical pair of chromosome received from both parents. Hence, meiosis occurs in a two step division process i.e. Meiosis I and Meiosis II.

Meiosis II is the mitotic division of each of the haploid cells produced in meiosis I. Note that, homologous chromosomes separate in anaphase I of meiosis I, and further undergoes cytokinesis (division of cytoplasm) to produce two haploid (reduced number of chromosomes) daughter cells.

During anaphase of meiosis II, the individual chromosomes (sister chromatids) separate at the centromeres (point of attachment between two sister chromatids). The separated chromosomes are pulled apart towards each pole of the cell by the spindle fibres.

Meiosis II the chromosomes are pulled to the center of the cell and line up randomly at the equato
Anaphase II the centromere of each chromosome splits -the sister chromatids separate and move to opposite poles

Which is the correct sequence of events in mitosis?
OlgaM077 [116]
The correct answer among the choices listed above is option A. The correct sequence of events in mitosis has an acronym of PMAT which means Prophase , Metaphase, Anaphase , Telephase. Prophase involves DNA coiling up to form chromosomes. Metaphase are where centrosomes form the mitotic spindle. Anaphase start to pull on two chromatids. Lastly, the telophase is where nuclear membranes form around the chromosomes.

A change in the nucleotide sequence of a gene can lead to a change in _______, which can lead to a change in in the amino acid s
Julli [10]

Answer:

Codon transcription

Explanation:

The DNA, present in the nucleus, is the stored form of the genetic material i.e. a segment of it is called a gene. DNA is one of the two types of Nucleic acids made up of nucleotide sequences. A nucleotide is a combination of a five-carbon sugar (Deoxyribose in DNA), nitrogenous base and a phosphate group. These nucleotides are arranged in sequence to form the nucleic acid (DNA or RNA).

The information stored in this gene has to be expressed, and this is done via transcription and translation processes.

Transcription is the transfer of genetic instructions in DNA to mRNA. In transcription, a strand of mRNA that is complementary to a strand of DNA is formed. Transcription occurs in three steps viz: Initiation, elongation and termination where RNA polymerase uses sequence of bases in DNA to make a complementary strand of mRNA. The mRNA undergoes additional processing including spicing, editing and polyadenylation before it leaves the nucleus to the ribosome for protein synthesis.

Each three successive nucleotide base stretch of mRNA is known as CODON and each coding contains information for a specific amino acid. These codons direct protein synthesis with assistance of tRNA in a process called translation.

In translation, the mRNA sequence is used as a template to assemble, in order, the chain of amino acids that form a protein.

If there is a change in the nucleotide sequence in the gene (segment of DNA), it will lead to a change in the sequence of the three-base mRNA (codon) formed, which may ultimately cause a change in sequence of amino acids (proteins)
