AnnZ [28]

Answer:

QR = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

PR = PQ + QR

PR = x + 19

PQ = 9

So now put what you know in the equation above.

PR = 9 + 2x + 19

PR also equals x + 19

so

x + 19 = 9 + 2x + 19

x + 19 = 2x + 28

19 - 28 + x = 2x

-9 + x = 2x

-9 = 2x - x

-9 = x

===================

QR = 2x + 19

QR = 2*-9 + 19

QR = -18 + 19

QR = 1

This really is kind of a nasty question. You don't expect to get a minus number of x.

Please note that if you mult. 243 by 2/3, you get 162.
If you mult. 162 by 2/3, you get 108.
If you mult. 108 by 2/3, you get 72.

We can then safely conclude that the common ratio is 2/3.

Our last given set member was 72.
Mult. this by 2/3 to get the 5th member:  48.
Mult. this 48 by 2/3 to get the 6th member:  32.
Mult. this 32 by 2/3 to get the 7th and last desired member:  21 1/3
