In the case of CPR or BVM, you should check the patient's airways, and on occasion keep a rigid suction catheter at the ready while laying the patient in the recovery position. You may have actually been applying positive pressure, with the air going into the stomach which has little tolerance for air, and may cause vomiting.

Just always remember though, Check the Airway.
