In Drosophila + indicates wild-type allele for any gene, m is mahogany and e is ebony. Female parents are m+/m+ and males are +e/+e. F1 are m+/+e, all wild type. F1 females are crossed with me/me males - the test cross. Offspring will be : non recombinant m+/me, mahogany wild type or +e/me wild type ebony. OR recombinant me/me mahogany ebony or ++/++ wild type. As the two genes are 25 map units apart, the percentage of recombinants will be 25% and therefore percentage parental types will be 75%. 75% 1000 is 750. There are two parental types, so you would expect 375 of each. Therefore, you would expect 375 m+/me and 375 +e/me. 25% of 1000 is 250 split between two recombinants =125 of each. Therefore you would expect 135 me/me and 125 ++/++

How do organisms get their DNA?
Reil [10]

Answer

DNA are found in the cells of all living organisms

Explanation

DNA is a complex molecule consisting of many components which are passed from parent organisms to their offsprings during the process of reproduction. The DNA contains instruction needed for an organism to develop survive and reproduce. DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid and is contained in your body's cells. From microscopic view they are double, large cable of particles termed as nucleotides. This show the cell what proteins to produce in the living organism. Hence, all living things have DNA within their cells.

Explain why the change in the way that molecules of b globin interact with each other lead to the sickling of the red blood cell
Nataliya [291]

The sickle form of the hemoglobin gene is created when an adenine nucleotide is changed to a thymine. ... That single amino acid replacement in the -globin protein alters the shape and the chemistry of the hemoglobin molecule, causing it to polymerize and distort the red blood cell into the sickle shape.

dominant genes mask recessive genes are represented by lower xase letters are only inherited from the male parent are masked by
Marianna [84]

Answer:

Dominant genes mask recessive genes.

Explanation:

Alleles are different variations of a gene. Every person has two alleles - one from each of their parents. Depending on whether it is expressed, an allele can be dominant or recessive.

A dominant allele is the one that is expressed even if the individual has one dominant and one recessive allele. This means that dominant alleles mask recessive alleles.

An example of a dominant allele is the one for brown eyes. This means that you need only one allele of this type to have brown eyes, which is why brown eyes are the most common.
