3:8 can also be written as 3/8

12:32 can also be written as 12/32

\frac{12}{32} = \frac{3\times 4}{8\times 4} = \frac{3}{8}

So thus 3:8 is equivalent to 12:32

Solve the following system of equations.
Elan Coil [88]

Answer:

(2,-3)

Step-by-step explanation:

I am not sure if you meant the first equation to be y or -y.  I solved it as y.

y = x-5                       -x -3y =7

I am going to take the second equation and write it as x =

-x - 3y = 7  Give equation

-x = 3y +7   Add 3y to both sides

x = -3y-7  Multiplied each term in the equation by -1 so that x could be positive

I am going to substitute -3y-7 for x in the first equation up above

y = x - 5

y = -3y -7 - 5  Substitute -3y-7 for x

y = -3y -12  Combined -7-5

4y = -12  Added 3y to both sides

y = -3  Divided both sides by 4.

I now know that y is -3, I will plug that into x = -3y-7 to solve for x

x = -3(-3) -7

x = 9-7   A negative times a negative is a positive

x = 2

A business was valued at £80000 at the start of 2013. In 5 years the value of this business raised to £95000. this is equivalent
Yuri [45]

the yearly increase of x% assumes is compounding yearly, so let's use that.

~~~~~~ \textit{Compound Interest Earned Amount} \\\\ A=P\left(1+\frac{r}{n}\right)^{nt} \quad \begin{cases} A=\textit{accumulated amount}\dotfill &\£95000\\ P=\textit{original amount deposited}\dotfill &\£80000\\ r=rate\to r\%\to \frac{r}{100}\\ n= \begin{array}{llll} \textit{times it compounds per year}\\ \textit{yearly, thus once} \end{array}\dotfill &1\\ t=years\dotfill &5 \end{cases}
95000=80000\left(1+\frac{~~ \frac{r}{100}~~}{1}\right)^{1\cdot 5}\implies \cfrac{95000}{80000}=\left( 1+\cfrac{r}{100} \right)^5 \\\\\\ \cfrac{19}{16}=\left( 1+\cfrac{r}{100} \right)^5\implies \sqrt[5]{\cfrac{19}{16}}=1+\cfrac{r}{100}\implies \sqrt[5]{\cfrac{19}{16}}=\cfrac{100+r}{100} \\\\\\ 100\sqrt[5]{\cfrac{19}{16}}=100+r\implies 100\sqrt[5]{\cfrac{19}{16}}-100=r\implies 3.5\approx r
If i get 60 dollars a day, how many days will it take to get 289,999 dollars?
vlabodo [156]
Well if you get 60 dollars every day we can represent that as 60d
We can set that equal to 289999 to solve for days, d.
289999 = 60d
289999/60 = d
4,833.3166667 = d
So 4,834 total days
