X over .82 = 8 over 100

cross multiply .82 by 8
.82×8=6.56

divide 6.56 by 100.
6.56÷100=.0656

round to 7
.07

add .82 to .07.
.82+.07= .89

the candy bar cost $0.89

Hope this helped. : )

Which equation has the solutions x=1+or-square root of 5?
stiv31 [10]

We will proceed to solve each case to determine the solution of the problem.

<u>case a)</u> x^{2}+2x+4=0

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

x^{2}+2x=-4

Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation by adding the same constants to each side.

x^{2}+2x+1=-4+1

x^{2}+2x+1=-3

Rewrite as perfect squares

(x+1)^{2}=-3

(x+1)=(+/-)\sqrt{-3}\\(x+1)=(+/-)\sqrt{3}i\\x=-1(+/-)\sqrt{3}i

therefore

case a) is not the solution of the problem

<u>case b)</u> x^{2}-2x+4=0

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

x^{2}-2x=-4

Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation by adding the same constants to each side.

x^{2}-2x+1=-4+1

x^{2}-2x+1=-3

Rewrite as perfect squares

(x-1)^{2}=-3

(x-1)=(+/-)\sqrt{-3}\\(x-1)=(+/-)\sqrt{3}i\\x=1(+/-)\sqrt{3}i

therefore

case b) is not the solution of the problem

<u>case c)</u> x^{2}+2x-4=0

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

x^{2}+2x=4

Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation by adding the same constants to each side.

x^{2}+2x+1=4+1

x^{2}+2x+1=5

Rewrite as perfect squares

(x+1)^{2}=5

(x+1)=(+/-)\sqrt{5}\\x=-1(+/-)\sqrt{5}

therefore

case c) is not the solution of the problem

<u>case d)</u> x^{2}-2x-4=0

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

x^{2}-2x=4

Complete the square. Remember to balance the equation by adding the same constants to each side.

x^{2}-2x+1=4+1

x^{2}-2x+1=5

Rewrite as perfect squares

(x-1)^{2}=5

(x-1)=(+/-)\sqrt{5}\\x=1(+/-)\sqrt{5}

therefore

case d) is the solution of the problem

therefore

<u>the answer is</u>

x^{2}-2x-4=0

How many distinct pairs of perfect squares differ by 35? (the pair $a, b$ is the same as the pair $b, a$.)?
Phantasy [73]
35 has 4 divisors, hence two factor pairs: 1*35 and 5*7. Each corresponds to a set of perfect squares that differ by 35

One pair is ((35±1)/2)^2 = {17^2, 18^2} = {289, 324}
The other is ((7±5)/2)^2 = {1^2, 6^2} = {1, 36}

Thanks for the help!
NikAS [45]

Answer:

A

Step-by-step explanation:

So we have the piecewise function:

f(x)= \begin{cases}\sqrt{2x} & \text{if }x

And we want to find f(8).

Since our input value is 8, choose the equation that fits our input.

The first equation demand x to be less than 3. 8 is not less than 3, so we won't use that.

The second equation demand x to e greater than or equal to 3 and less than 8. 8 is <em>not</em> less than 8. So, we won't use that.

The third equation demands x to be greater than or equal to 8. 8 is greater than or equal to 8, so we'll use the third equation.

So:

f(x)=42\text{ if }x\geq 8

f(8)=42

There're nothing more to do, we're done :)

The answer is A.
