Since we know it is between 80 and 99, the tens place can only either be 8 or 9.

If it is 8, the ones place is 5 since the digits must add to 13.
If it is 9, the ones place is 4 since, once again, the digits must add to 13.

Our options are 85 or 94. Based on the last clue, it is 85 since 8-5=3.

Final answer: 85

Can someone explain it too me why it is -8?.
Damm [24]

When a negative number is multiplied by a negative number it becomes positive, but when a positive number is multiplied by a negative number it goes back to negative. -2 X -2 is 4, and 4 x -2 is -8. Hope this helped.

The first thing to do in this case is to replace the value of x = 60 in the given function to obtain the average fuel mileage in miles per gallon.
 We then have to replace:
 y = -0.0088 * x ^ 2 + 0.79 * x + 15
 y = -0.0088 * (60) ^ 2 + 0.79 * (60) + 15
 y = 30.7 mi / gal
 answer
 the best approximate for the average gas mileage at a speed of 60 miles per hour is
 B) 30.7 mi / gal

A differentiable function f(x) is increasing on an open interval (a,b) if f'(x)>0 for all a, and decreasing if f'(x). For this problem, you then need to compute the derivative:

f(x)=x^2\ln x\implies f'(x)=2x\ln x+x=(2\ln x+1)x

then solve for f'(x)=0:

(2\ln x+1)x=0\implies x=0\text{ or }x=e^{-1/2}

We can ignore x=0 because x^2\ln x is defined only for x>0. So we have two intervals to consider, (0,e^{-1/2}) and (e^{-1/2},\infty). All we need to do is pick any value from either interval and check the sign of the derivative f'(x). Since e^{-1/2}\approx0.606, from the first interval we can take x=\dfrac12, and from the second we can pick x=1.

f'\left(\dfrac12\right)\approx-0.193

f'(1)=1>0

The above indicates that f(x) is decreasing on the first interval (0,e^{-1/2}), and increasing on the second interval (e^{-1/2},\infty).

For part (b), we use the info from above as part of the first derivative test for extrema. We have one critical point at x=e^{-1/2}, and we know how f(x) behaves to either side of this point; f(x) decreases to left of it, and increases to the right. This pattern is indicative of a minimum occurring at x=e^{-1/2}, and we find that f(x) has the (local) minimum value of f(e^{-1/2})=-\dfrac1{2e}\approx-0.184.

Please help……………………….
Vanyuwa [196]

Let’s start with the easy part: half of the base is 3.

Therefore, 3 x h + 1 = 18

3 x h = 3h and 3 x 1 = 3

3h + 3 = 18

To solve these equations, you have to do the inverse. First you would need to minus 3:

3h = 15

3h is a simpler way of saying 3 x h, so the inverse would be a divide.

h = 5
