The example that illustrates the rule of law is: a president commits a crime and is tried for it in court.

Rule of law has to do with the acknowledgment of the superiority and authority of the law to all members of a society. Therefore, no person within a society should be excused or excluded from dealing with the consequences of breaking the law. A president, is an authority and a public officer, however he is not excluded from being tried in court if he or she commits a crime.
