Historians craft historical narratives to explain what took place in the past ie where it took place, when ie in what century, what it was that was the main characteristic of a particular time like seagoing explorations in the Renaissance and a rebirth of learning and natural science, who came up with the earth shattering theories like the sun being the center of the earth, etc.
