Solve the system x+3=22 2x-y=2

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

x = 19, y = 36

Discussion:

x + 3 = 22     (*)

2x - y = 2      (**)

Subtract 3 from both sides of (*)

x + 3 -3 = 22 = 3 = 19  =>

x = 19

Substitute x= 19 in (**)

2(19) - y = 2 =>

38 - y = 2 =>           (add y to both sides)

38 -y + y = 2 + y =>

38 = 2 + y  =>         (subtract 2 from both sides)

38 -2 = 2 -2 + y =>

36 = y

The average rate of change of credit card is $ 401.79 /year.

What is Average Rate?

  • A single rate that is a weighted average of the different rates that are applicable to property in various locations.
  • An average is a single number calculated as the average of a set of numbers, typically calculated as the sum of the numbers divided by the total number of numbers in the set (the arithmetic mean).

Solution

The difference of credit card debt between the year 2006 and 1992 = 8900 - 3275 = $5625

The difference of years between the year 2006 and 1992 = 2006 - 1992 = 14

average rate of change of credit card debt with respect to time = \frac{difference of credit card debt}{difference of years}

average rate = \frac{5625}{14} = $ 401.79 / year

A lookout tower is 16 meters tall. Its shadow is 12 meters long. Close by, there is a wooden column that is 4 meters tall. How l
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

3 metres

Step-by-step explanation:

If we draw this out, we'll see that there are actually two similar right triangles (see attachment), which means that we can set up a proportion.

The height of the lookout tower corresponds to the height of the wooden column, while the shadow of the lookout tower corresponds to the shadow of the wooden column. We can then write:

(height of lookout tower) / (shadow of tower) = (height of column) / (shadow of column)

16 / 12 = 4 / x , where x is the shadow / unknown we want to find

Cross-multiply:

16x = 48

x = 3

The answer is thus 3 metres.
