You have a graph with a y and a x axis. The x axis is horizontal, the y axis is vertical. first you find the x intercept, which is 4. So you go along the horizontal line until you come across the number 4. draw a point there. Now, you do the same with the y imtercept, accept now you will draw a point at three along the vertical line. draw a straight line connecting the two points. Now, in order to find the slope, you need to know this equation: RISE OVER RUN. What this means, is what it takes to get from one point to another. So, you go to your y intercept. from there, you count downwards, until you have reached the height of the point on the x axis. that is -3. So the rise is negative three, what's the run? Well, now you need to count how many units it takes to get to the other point. you need to go backwards 4 units. so, your rise over run = -3/-4. Since slope = rise/run, Slope = -3/-4, or -(3/4)

A candy box is made from a piece of cardboard that measures 23 by 13 inches. Squares of equal size will be cut out of each corne
wolverine [178]

Answer:

2.67 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming that we represent the size of the squares with the letter y, such that after the squares are being cut from each corner, the rectangular length of the box that is formed can now be ( 23 - 2y), the width to be (13 - 2y) and the height be (x).

The formula for a rectangular box = L × B × W

= (23 -2y)(13-2y) (y)

= (299 - 46y - 26y + 4y²)y

= 299y - 72y² + 4y³

Now for the maximum volume:

dV/dy = 0

This implies that:

299y - 72y² + 4y³ = 299 - 144y + 12y² = 0

By using the quadratic formula; we have :

= \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 -4ac}}{2a}

where;

a = 12; b = -144 and c = 299

= \dfrac{-(-144) \pm \sqrt{(-144)^2 -4(12)(299)}}{2(12)}

= \dfrac{144 \pm \sqrt{20736 -14352}}{24}

= \dfrac{144 \pm \sqrt{6384}}{24}

= \dfrac{144 \pm79.90}{24}

= \dfrac{144 + 79.90}{24} \ \  OR  \ \   \dfrac{144 - 79.90}{24}

= 9.33 \ \  OR  \ \ 2.67

Since the width is 13 inches., it can't be possible for the size of the square to be cut to be 9.33

Thus, the size of the square to be cut out from each corner to obtain the maximum volume is 2.67 inches.

For quadrilateral ABCD, determine the most precise name for it. A(-2,3), B (9,3), C(5,6) and D(2,6). Show your work and explain.
Andrews [41]

I graphed the 4 points and connected the dots. (Sorry I'm not able to show this)

I then realized it was some type of trapezoid however, I wasn't sure which kind of trapezoid (regular or isosceles) so I googled the properties of both and concluded that it makes a regular trapezoid.

Graph the equation by plotting three
Jlenok [28]

Answer:

-3y = 2x - 7

y = -2/3x - 7/3

Step-by-step explanation:

y cannot be negative nor a whole number.

To get y by itself you have to divide the -3 over to the other side.
