Let, the speed of boat = x
Speed of current = y
So, x + y = 280/7
x + y = 40   ---- first equation

x - y = 280/14
x - y = 20
x = 20 + y

Substitute this value of x in first equation,
20 + y + y = 40
2y = 40 - 20
y = 20/2
y = 10

Substitute this in first equation,
x + 10 = 40
x = 30

In short, Speed of Boat = 30 mph, & speed of current = 10 mph

Hope this helps!

One year, the population of a city was 352,000. Several years later it was 337,920.
kvasek [131]

hi

here is  the  method :

you take  Value 1  and Value 2

And you do :   ( Value 2 - Value 1)  / (Value 1 )    * 100

Here we have :    Value 1 = 352 000

                            Value 2 =  337 920

So now we apply :

( 337 920 - 352 000 )  /  ( 352 000)   * 100 =  -4

Population decreased by by  4 %

You can also make :

352 000 * X = 337 920

                 X =  337 920 / 352 000

                 X = 0.96

if  the multiplier is  0.96 ,  it's mean that we lost  1 -0.96 = 0.04

which mean  - 4%

Which best describe a vector
ANEK [815]

Answer:

Vectors are used to represent physical magnitudes that have an associated address.For example,if we want to represent the displacement of an object,it is not enough to describe only the distance as 10 meters, it is also necessary to describe in which direction the displacement occurred,for example,30°towards the northeast.

Hope this helps:)

Which expression represents the growth of an investment of $2,000 at 4% per year for a period of t years?
VikaD [51]

Answer:

2,000(1.04)t

Step-by-step explanation:

To determine this answer, you would use the formula initial value (1 + interest) times the number of years. This would equal 2,000(1.04)t.

The side of a square is 11.2 cm. what is the length of the diagonal
Snowcat [4.5K]
You can work out the diagonal by using Pythagoras theorem. (a^2 = b^2 + c^2)

As it is a square, all 4 sides are the same so it would be:
11.2^2 + 11.2^2 = diagonal^2
250.88 = diagonal^2
Square root both sides to get what the diagonal is equal to.
diagonal is 15.8 cm
