The area of the floor is (16-ft x 14-ft) = 224 square feet.

IF carpet cost $16 per square foot, THEN enough carpet
to cover that floor would cost

             (224) x ($16) = $3,584 ,

and PLUS, you'd need to buy 224 square feet of pad to lay down
under the carpet, and pay more to have the whole thing installed.
That's an awful lot of money for a little dinky 12' x 14' bedroom !

Carpet does NOT cost $16 per square foot.
It's more like $16 per square YARD (plus pad and installation).

9 square feet = 1 square yard.

The area of the bedroom is (224/9) =  24-8/9 square yards

At $16 per each of those, the carpet costs  (24-8/9) x ($16) = $398.22 .
Much more reasonable !

It would cost $ 3,584 to carpet the floor.

Further Explanation

<u>Given:</u>

Carpet cost $16 feet²

The area to cover 16 feet x 14 feet

How much it cost to carpet the floor?

First step, we will calculate the area which is multiply 16 feet to 14 feet, we are going to solve this multiplication using the area model (see attachment)

\boxed {16 \times 14\ }\\ = \boxed {(10+6) \times (10+4)\ }\\= \boxed {(6 \times4)+ (10  \times4)+(6 \times10)+(10 \times10)\ }\\= \boxed {24+40+60+100\ }\\ = \boxed {224\ }

Next step, we are going to calculate the total cost to cover the area. Using the same methods as above, the area model, the result would be:

\boxed {224 \times16\ }\\ = \boxed {3584\ }

f(x)= -2x+1 {-2,0,2,4,6}

If x=-2, then -2(-2)+1 = 5

If x=0, then -2(0)+1 = 1

If x=2, then -2(2)+1 = -3

If x=4, then -2(4)+1 = -7

If x=6, then -2(6)+1 = -11

Which of the following is the value of f(3) in the function below? f(x)=2x-1
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]

Answer:

F(3) = 2 * 3 - 1, which is 6 - 1 equaling 5.

Step-by-step explanation:

3 times 2 is six since you have to follow PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction). Multiplication is before Subtraction, and that is why we multiply 2 and 3 first, since 3 replaces the variable x. After multiplying 2 and 3 to get 6, subtract by 1 to get 5.

Answer: 5
