1. when you see 4(x² - 1), then you have to multiply 4 with everything in the bracket. keep in mind that you always have to be cautious of the sign whether it is a positive or a negative.

positive ×/÷ positive = positive
negative ×/÷ negative = positive
positive ×/÷ negative = negative
negative ×/÷ positive = negative

^ you have to remember this.

2. only like terms (same alphabet) can plus or minus each other.

3. simplify by taking out the common factor and placing it outside the bracket. though, keep in mind that you also have to divide the terms inside the bracket by the common factor.

lauren wants to keep her cell phone bull under $60 per month. Her current cell phone plan is $30 per month plus $0.50 per text.
stellarik [79]

Answer:

The correct answer is t < 60.

Step-by-step explanation:

Lauren wants to keep her cell phone bill below $60 per month.

Lauren's current cellphone plan charges her a fixed price of $30 and per text price for one text is $0.50.

Let Lauren sends t texts in a complete month.

Total money spent on texts in a month is given by $ (0.50 × t)

Therefore Lauren's total spent in a month is given by $ (30 + (0.50 × t)).

But this amount should be under $60 as per as the given problem.

∴ 30 + (0.50 × t) < 60

⇒ (0.50 × t) < 30

⇒ t < \frac{30}{0.50}

⇒ t < 60.

So in order to keep her phone monthly bill under $60, Lauren should keep her number of texts below 60.

Is 2/3 greater than 4/8
MArishka [77]

Find a common denominator to begin. The common denominator is the LCM of both denominators. In this case, the common denominator will be 24.

Now, multiply the numerator by the number you multiplied the denominator. For 2/3, you multiplied 3 by 8, so multiply 2 by 8 to get 16. The fraction is now 16/24. Multiply 4 by 3 since you multiplied 8 by 3 to get 24. You will get 12 and the fraction will become 12/24.

Then, compare. 16/24 is closer to 24/24, or one whole, so 16/24, or 2/3, is greater.

What is the first error Alycia made in her proof.
iogann1982 [59]

Answer: Alycia only established some of the necessary conditions for a congruence criterion.

Step-by-step explanation: Two triangles are congruent if their corresponding sides or/and corresponding angles are the same.

There are 5 ways to find out if the triangles are congruent.

The one Alycia used seems to be the one called Side-Angle-Side, which states that if two sides and its included angle is equal to the corresponding sides and angle of the other triangle, they are congruent.

For triangles ΔOPQ and ΔSTR to be congruent, using that theorem:

1) ∠O = ∠S

2) OP = TS

And

3) RS = OQ

So, Alycia's error is that she didn't prove RS = OQ, which would definitively conclude that both triangles are congruent.
