1) democracies are usually more just and prevent power abuse : dictators can abuse people for their profit, but in democracies since all are in power there is noone to abuse who would not complain

2) it gives everyone a change to express what is important for them

3) it makes chosen leaders accountable for their actions if they want to be chosen again (in representative democracies, but that's essentially all democracies)
