Answer: x = 4, y = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the two numbers be x and y

sum of the two numbers will be

x + y =  12 ------------------------------1

Difference of the two numbers

x - y  =  -4 ----------------------------- 2

Now, to find the two numbers , we solve equation 1 & 2 together

  x + y =  12

  x - y  =  -4

we now add the two equations to eliminate y

   2x =  8

      x = 4.  Now to find the value of y, we substitute for x in any of the equation above

 x + y  = 12

 4  + y = 12

        y =  12 - 4

        y  =  8

Answer:

  4 and 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let 'a' represent one of the numbers. Then the other is 12-a, and their difference is ...

  a - (12-a) = -4

  2a = 8 . . . . add 12

  a = 4 . . . . . divide by 2

  12-a = 8 . . . . find the other number

The two numbers are 4 and 8.

Ann wants to choose from two telephone plans. Plan A involves a fixed charge of $10 per month and call charges at $0.10 per minute. Plan B involves a fixed charge of $15 per month and call charges at $0.08 per minute.

Plan A $10 + .10/minute

Plan B $15 + .08/minute

If 250 minutes are used:

Plan A: $10+$25=$35
Plan B: $15+$20=$35

If 400 minutes are used:

Plan A: $10+$40=$50
Plan B: $15+$32=$47

B is the correct answer. How to test it:

Plan A: $10+(.10*249 minutes)
$10+$24.9=$34.9

Plan B: $15+(.08*249 minutes)
$15+$19.92=$34.92

Plan A < Plan B if less than 250 minutes are used.

A company that makes nails finds that it would sell 42 boxes of nails per month if they are priced at $20 per box. If the compan

The answer is D.

If x = number of boxes sold and y = price of nails box, then it is best represented by the equation y = 62 - x.
Checking:
If y = 20 and x = 42,
20 = 62 - 42
20 = 20

If y = 10 and x = 52.
10 = 62 - 52
10 = 10
