Read the following passage: Elephants were being hunted in large numbers for their ivory tusks. Realizing that the species was b

ecoming endangered, most countries outlawed the sale and trade of ivory and ivory products. This had the unintended outcome of making ivory much more expensive. People wanted this increasingly rare and valuable trophy. Poachers, tempted by huge payouts, became more aggressive, and the elephant slaughter actually increased. What does the author's word choice most clearly suggest regarding his feelings about elephant poaching? A. He uses the word "poachers" to highlight the fact that this type of hunting is illegal. B. He uses the word "trophy" to criticize the buyers who helped perpetuate the ivory trade. C. He describes the sad outcome of this attempt to save the elephants by outlawing ivory. D. He uses the words "rare" and "valuable" to express his admiration of ivory products.

Answer:

A. He uses the word "poachers" to highlight the fact that this type of hunting is illegal.

Explanation:

The speaker's tone is quite objective. Feelings cannot be easily perceived . When he uses the word " poachers" , however, we can see that he thinks people who go hunting do so illegally. Besides, he uses this word after explaining that many countries outlawed the the sale and trade of ivory to stop elephants from going extinct. The word poacher has a negative connotation. These are greedy people who want to make money.

Misha Larkins [42]
As she has already prepared and rehearsed several times, we can not say the answer is a or b. Both c and d are really good options but I would say D is the correct one, cause what she needs is to have perspective of what she will attain after her presentation and to do that she needs a positive thinking. Hope this helps
