The differences between the North and South were readily apparent well before the American Revolution. Economic, social and political structures differed significantly between the two regions, and these disparities only widened in the 18 hundreds. In 1861, the Civil War erupted between the two sides and much of the conflict surrounded sectional differences. Once the war ended, reconstruction lessened some sectional disparities but increased others.

The differences between North and South America were big even before the Civil War and those differences were one of the main reasons for the Civil War. The Northern States of America were more Industrialized and more developed than the Southern States. The economy of the Southern States was based on agriculture and slavery work. The Northern States society was more diverse than the Southern one since the North was more developed it also attracted more immigrants than the Southern States.

The differences also went to religion, most of the Northern citizens were Catholics - some Irish some German. In the South, people were predominantly Protestant.
