Asexual reproduction

Further Explanation:

The asexual reproduction is a simple process in which a large number of offsprings are produced in a short period. Asexual reproduction is a process in which offspring arises from a single parent. The offspring produced are identical copies of each other (clones). The genetic makeup of all offspring is similar. The process does not involve gamete formation and fusion. Single-celled organisms like bacteria and archaea reproduce by asexual reproduction. Prokaryotes reproduce by asexual method whereas eukaryotic cells undergo mitotic division. Sexual reproduction involves two parents who produce unique offspring.

Types of asexual reproduction are as follows-

1. Binary fission

2. Budding

3. Vegetative propagation

Asexual reproduction is an energy-efficient process. The offsprings produced are very large in number so the chances of survival increase with increased population size.

The major drawback of asexual reproduction is that it restricts the process of evolution. The offspring produced are very large in number so they have to compete for the nutrient and available space. Asexual reproduction is responsible for genetic diversity loss. The organisms produced have similar gene content so a small change in the environment can lead to the extinction of the whole population.

Answer:  Asexual reproduction

Explanation:

Many organisms (like bacteria) and plants undergo asexual reproduction. Species that produce via asexual reproduction can produce up to 600 offspring’s in one season. Asexual reproduction does not involve six cells or fertilization, only one parent is involved so there is no fusion of gametes and no mixing of genetic information, all offspring’s are clones. Budding occurs in plants when they undergo asexual reproduction and starfishes cut themselves in halves and they grow to form a new starfish.

Asexual reproduction is rapid and reproduce their species in a large number

The right answer is A) Trisomy

Aberrant karyotypes containing an abnormal number of chromosomes are known in the human species. The best-known (and most common) chromosomal abnormality is trisomy 21, which is responsible for Down syndrome (mongolism). There are others such as Turner syndrome (woman with a single X chromosome) or Klinefelter syndrome (man XXY).

These abnormalities originate from the non-disjunction of the chromosomes of a pair of homologues during metaphase I of meiosis. At the end of division I, a daughter cell contains the two chromosomes of the pair considered and the other cell does not contain a chromosome of this pair. A similar result can be obtained during a bad distribution of chromatids during anaphase II.

After fertilization from a gamete of this type, a trisomy or a monosomy is obtained.

Which of the following vectors holds the largest pieces of DNA?
wolverine [178]

Answer:

c. YACs

Explanation:

YACs, the Yeast artificial chromosomes are the high capacity vectors designed to carry the eukaryotic genes and carry the insert of 200-2000 kb.

YACs carry origin of replication from yeast, selectable markers and sequences derived from telomeres and centromere to maintain the stability of the insert during cell division.

The insert size for plasmids, bacteriophage, PACs, and cosmids is about 0.1-10 kb, 5-25 kb, 100-300 kb, 35-45 kb respectively.
