When a car's tire pressure is 30 pounds per square inch (psi), it averages 20.5 mpg of gasoline. If the tire pressure is incre

ased to 35 psi, the car averages 21.1 mpg of gasoline.
Answer parts a) through c).
a) If someone drives an average of 23,000 mi per year, how many gallons of gasoline will he save in a year by increasing his tire pressure from 30 to 35 psi?

b.) If gasoline costs $2.00 per gallon, how much will he save in a year?

c.) Assume that there are about 140million cars in a country and that these changes are typical of each car, how many gallons of gasoline would be saved if all drivers increased their cars' tire pressure?

For A, divide total miles by the miles per gallon for each tire pressure to find the number of gallons of gas used:

At 30 psi: 23000 / 20.5 = 1121.95 gallons , round to 1121 gallons.

At 35 psi: 23000 / 21.1 = 1090 gallons.

Number of gallons saved: 1121 - 1090 = 31 gallons.

B) multiply the cost per gallon by the number of gallons saved:

31 gallons x $2.00 = $62.00 saved.

C) Multiply the gallons saved by 1 car by total number of cars:

31 gallons x 140 million cars = 4,340 million gallons ( 4 billion 340 million gallons)

Which of the following possibilities will NOT form a triangle? (5 points)
ruslelena [56]

Answer: Choice A

Side = 5 ft, side = 15 ft, side = 3 ft

Explanation:

The two sides 5 ft and 3 ft add to 5+3 = 8 ft which is not larger than the 15 ft side. This is exactly why a triangle is not possible here.

If we want a triangle to happen, then adding any two sides must be larger than the third side.

If we want a triangle with sides a,b,c, then we need the following to be true

 • a+b > c
 • a+c > b
 • b+c > a

Refer to the triangle inequality theorem for more information.

Eddie the elf made 13 toys one day in the workshop. some were dolls and the rest were action figures. the number of action figur
Lunna [17]
To solve this problem we first call x = number of action figures, y = number of dolles. A system of two equations with two unknowns must be made to describe the problem. The system is the following:
(x + 1) + y = 13
1/2 * x = y.
Then solving the system we have that x = 8 and y = 4.
Since we know that the number of action figures is twice as many dolls plus one, then x = 8 + 1 = 9.
Thus,
dollos = 4
action figures = 9
