Question:

Two 6.7 kg bodies, A and B, collide. The velocities before the collision are 40i+37j and 19 i +3.7 j . After the collision 9.8 i + 5.1 j, 50 i+35.6 j . What are (a) the x-component and (b) the y-component of the final velocity of B? (c) What is the change in the total kinetic energy (including sign)?

Answer:

(a) 50 m/s

(b) 35.6 m/s

(c) -735.16 J

Explanation:

Given,

u_A=40i+37j=\sqrt{40^2+37^2}=54.5 m/s

u_B=19 i +3.7 j=\sqrt{19^2+3.7^2}=19.4m/s

v_A=9.8 i + 5.1 j=\sqrt{9.8^2+5.1^2}=11m/s

v_B=50 i+35.6 j=\sqrt{50^2+35.6^2}=61.4m/s

Change in kinetic energy = final kinetic energy - initial kinetic energy

\Delta K.E.=\frac{1}{2} m(v_A+v_B)^2 -\frac{1}{2} m(u_A+u_B)^2\\

\Delta K.E.=\frac{1}{2} 6.7(11+61.4)^2 -\frac{1}{2} 6.7(54.5+19.4)^2\\\Delta K.E. =17559.89-18295.05\\\Delta K.E. = -735.16 J

Explain why frog will not look green under the red light?
IrinaVladis [17]
A frog can be many different colours. It appears green under normal 'white' light because it absorbs all the other colours in the light's spectrum apart from green. It reflects the green light back and that is picked up by your eye.

If the light is red, there is no green in the spectrum of the light, only red. So, the red light will be absorbed and there is no green to be reflected back for you to see. Therefore, the frog will not look green.

A railroad car having a mass of 15 Mg is coasting at 1.5 m/s on a horizontal track. At the same time another car having a mass o
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

We shall apply law of conservation of momentum to know velocity after collision . Let it be v .

total momentum before collision = total momentum after collision

15 x 1.5 - 12 x .75 = ( 15 + 12 ) v

v = .5 m /s

kinetic energy before collision

1/2 x 15 x 1.5² + 1/2 x 12 x .75²

= 16.875 + 3.375

= 20.25 J

kinetic energy after collision

= 1/2 x ( 15 + 12 ) x .5²

= 3.375 J

Loss of energy = 16.875 J

This energy appear as heat and sound energy that is produced during collision .

A pendulum takes 4 seconds to make one complete swing. A man walks 100m in a straight line while the pendulum makes 20 complete
irina [24]

The average velocity of the man is determined as 1.25 m/s.

<h3>Average velocity of the man</h3>

Total distance traveled by the man = 100 m

If 1 complete cycle = 4 s

  20 complete cycle = ?

= 20 x 4 s

= 80 s

Average velocity = total distance/total time

Average velocity = 100 m/80 s

Average velocity = 1.25 m/s

Thus, the average velocity of the man is determined as 1.25 m/s.
