Hey there!!

How do we find the area of a rectangle?

<em>Length * Breadth = Area </em>

... Length * breadth = 55

Width is 6 miles less than the length.

... Width = Length - 6

______________________________________

... Length ( Length - 6 ) = 55

... Length² - 6Length = 55

... Length² - 6Length - 55 = 0

... Length² + 5Length - 11Length - 55 = 0

... Length ( Length + 5 ) - 11 ( Length + 5 ) = 0

... ( Length - 11 ) ( Length + 5 ) = 0

... We could find two solution.

They are : 11 and -5.

<em>As the values can not be in negatives, the appropriate length would be '11'</em>

Length = 11

Breadth = Length - 6

... Breadth = 11 - 6

... Breadth = 5

<em>Hence, the Length = 11 and the Breadth = 5 </em>

Hope my answer helps!

area = width * length

or

A = W * L

55 = W * (W+6)

solve for width:

0 = W^2 + 6W - 55

this is a quadratic and has two solutions -11 and 5

a length can only be non-negative so discard -11.

width W = 5 miles

now the length is 5+6 = 11 miles

Triangle PQR has coordinates P (0, 0), Q (-4,0), and R (0, 2). If APQR - AXYZ, what is the measure of XY?
SSSSS [86.1K]

Answer:

4 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the two triangles are similar, their sides are proportional. To find the length of the side, you need to use the distance formula:

\sqrt{(x_{1} - x_{2})^{2} + (y_{1} - y_{2})^{2} }

The coordinates you will use are (0, 0) and (-4, 0) because they correspond to points X and Y in Triangle PQR:

\sqrt{(0 - (-4))^{2} + (0 - 0)^{2}}

Then, simplify everything under the radical:

\sqrt{16}

Finally, take the square root of 16:

\sqrt{16} = 4

CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME IF MY ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION I WROTE DOWN IS CORRECT I REALLY DONT WANT TO GET THIS QUESTION WRONG IS THAT TH
podryga [215]

Answer:

The correct answer is 2 ( 5 × w )

Explanation:

Area of a rectangle = length × width

The length = 5 feet

The width = w feet

So the area = 5 × w

Then, he has to double the length and width, so its 2 times the length and width. So the new expression will be:

Area = 2 ( 5 × w )

Which equation shows a proportional relationship?
Kamila [148]

Answer:

Option D i.e. y = 1/2 x is the correct answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that when 'y' varies directly with 'x', we get the equation

y ∝ x

y = kx

where k is the constant of proportionality.

In our case, the only equation which maps in accordance with y = kx is y = 1/2x.

i.e.

y = 1/2 x

here k = 1/2

Thus, k = 1/2 is the constant of proportionality.

Therefore, option D i.e. y = 1/2 x is the correct answer.
