Col. Ingersoll is clearly against the Chinese Exclusion Act. According to him, “The law is barbarous…It is to the main interest of this country to maintain friendly relations with China.” On the other hand, Representative Geary is supportive of the act. He said that China is making America vulnerable and that it is rightful to drive away the Chinese people.
