Jane sells 8 times as many Volvos as Melissa. If the difference in their sales is 35, how many cars did Jane sell?

Mathematics
1 answer:
Usimov [2.4K]3 years ago
8 0
Here we have 2 variables we need to calculate:
x - how many Volvos Jane sold
y - how many Volvos Melissa sold

We write system of equations:
x = 8*y
x - y = 35
------------
8y - y = 35
7y = 35
y = 5
x = 8*5 = 40

Jane sold 40 cars.

You are riding a train. Your carry-on bag can weigh no more than 50 pounds. Your bag weighs 38 pounds.
Sladkaya [172]

Answer:

Let the additional weight that can be added be = x

Current weight of the bag = 38 pounds

Total weight can be = 50 pounds

The equation becomes:

38+x < or equal 50

x < or equal 50-38=12

Hence, a weight of 12 pounds cab be added to the current wight.

Using the data in the table, use the exponential smoothing method with alpha=0.5 and a February forecast of 500 to forecast
Sever21 [200]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula to calculate the forecast could be determine by using the exponential smoothing method :

Ft = F(t-1) +  \alpha [A(t-1) - F(t-1)]

Where ,Ft is the Forecast for period t

F(t-1) is the Forecast for the period previous to t

A(t-1) is the Actual demand for the period previous to t

\alpha = Smoothing constant

To get the forecast for may and june   the above formula with \alpha =0.5 and april forecast of 500 will be used

For march

=500+0.5(520-500)\\\\=500+0.5\times20\\\\=500+10\\\\=510

For April

=510+0.5(535-510)\\\\=510+0.5\times25\\\\=510+12.5\\\\=522.5

For May

=522.5+0.5(550-5225)\\\\=522.5+0.5\times27.5\\\\=522.5+13.75\\\\=536.25

So forecast for May = 536.25

20 POINTS!!! Mr. Moore is installing new work benches in the wood shop. He wants the height of the benches to be best for studen
liubo4ka [24]

A: Suppose Mr. Moore decides to use 20 seventh graders as the sample. Is this sample a random sample? Explain your reasoning.

Ans: No, because he only chose the seventh graders which is invalid since he wants to have to use the mean height which involves the 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

B: Mr. Moore decides to use a random number generator to select 20 students from the school. Suppose that when choosing 20 students using the random generator on the graphing calculator, Mr. Moore’s sample is all eighth graders. Does that mean the sample is not a random sample? Explain your reasoning.

Ans: No, it is still a random sample. Since he is using a random generator, there is a possibility that the random generator would pick all students from the 8th grade. Unlike the first one, the random generator is not biased towards any grade, it is just a coincidence.
