Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 while watching the play “Our Cousins” at Ford’s Theatre.  This was caused by the Emancipation Act that took effect on January 1, 1863 declaring all slaves free.   Another was the defeat and surrender of the Confederate Government On April 9, 1865.  This prompted Booth to assassinate the president that led to his death on  April 15, 1865.  Booth was killed by Sgt. Boston Corbett on a Virginian farm.
