Sickle cell disease (sickle cell anemia) is a genetic, inherited disease affecting red blood cells, in which a child can be ill if both parents are transmitters, ie asymptomatic carriers of the gene for sickle cell disease. It is a hereditary autosomal recessive disease, that is, it affects girls as well as boys, and only manifests itself when one carries two genes of the disease. This disease is genetic and therefore not contagious.
*So, to be sick from sickle cell disease, the person has to have two sick alleles in the chromosome.
*To have the sickle-cell trait without getting sick, the person has to have only one sick allele.

How would being able to bring water into the gills when the mouth is closed benefit a bottom-dwelling shark or ray?
trapecia [35]

Answer:

The ability to bring water into the gills when the mouth is closed would benefit a bottom dwelling shark or ray, because it would allow them to be more discreet when in the process of catching prey and they would be able to stop swimming. Most sharks have to continuously swim or else they would sink, while being able to bring water into the gills when the mouth is closed would highly benefit them and allow them to stop swimming for a moment.

Explanation:

I am not 100% sure this is the correct answer, but I am currently doing a lab on this, so I am using the knowledge I previously had and online resources. I am pretty confident though.
