Answer:

Option (B)

Explanation:

The Appalachian mountains are one of the oldest mountain belts that have formed during the time of Ordovician, which is about 460-480 million years back. During this time, the super continent Pangaea was present, within which the Appalachians mountains were formed due to the convergent of the North American plate and the North African plate. But in due course of time, the direction of plate motion has changed. As a result of which these two plates moved in the opposite direction creating the Atlantic ocean.

Thus, the Appalachian orogeny was formed due to the collision between two continental plates namely the North American plate and the North African plate.

Hence, the correct answer is option (B).

How developmental genes play role in evolution?
ehidna [41]

Answer:

Genetic variations that alter gene activity or protein function can introduce different traits in an organism. If a trait is advantageous and helps the individual survive and reproduce, the genetic variation is more likely to be passed to the next generation (a process known as natural selection).

Nasim is driving on a snow-covered road, and her car begins to slide. The quick behavioral response and the increased heart rate
Luda [366]

Answer:

1. sympathetic

2. parasympathetic

Explanation:

The sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system triggers the release of stress hormones from adrenal medulla under emergency conditions. There is a series of physiological responses such as increased heart and breathing rate, an increased flow of blood to skeletal muscles, dilation of pupils, etc. These events helped Nasim to fight the stress conditions.

Once she was relieved, the parasympathetic system is activated that shut down the physiological responses generated by sympathetic division. It slows down the breathing and heart rate and triggers the digestion and absorption of nutrients to restore the energy level of cells.

Where are the three seismographs used to find the epicenter of this earthquake located?
8090 [49]

Scientists use triangulation to find the epicenter of an earthquake. When seismic data is collected from at least three different locations, it can be used to determine the epicenter by where it intersects. Every earthquake is recorded on numerous seismographs located in different directions. Each seismograph records the times when the first (P waves) and second (S waves) seismic waves arrive. From that information, scientists can determine how fast the waves are traveling. Knowing this helps them calculate the distance from the epicenter to each seismograph.

To determine the direction each wave traveled, scientists draw circles around the seismograph locations. The radius of each circle equals the known distance to the epicenter. Where these three circles intersect is the epicenter.
