In the years of 1400s, Timbuktu was regarded as one of the most richest city in the world because it's used as a trade center for popular commodities such as Salt, Gold, and Ivory.
Now, this city no longer serve the same purpose at that time, and even considered on of the poorest city in the world.

At first, this movement aimed to reform the beliefs and practices that were imposed by the Roman Catholic church but soon challenged the absolute power and authority of the pope, which later resulted in the rise of nation-states.
