A swimming pool is to be constructed in a 1,408-ft2 backyard. There is to be a fence that will surround a 12-by-24-foot pool. Th
kkurt [141]

The width of the pool is 10 feet.

What is area of rectangle?

The area of rectangle is product of length and breadth.

Let the width be x.

length = 24 + 2x. and breadth = 12 + 2x

We know, area= 1408 ft².

(12 + 2x)(24 + 2x) = 1408

12*24 + 12*2x + 24*2x + (2x)² = 1408

288 + 72x + 4x² = 1408

4x² + 72x + 288 - 1408 = 0

4x² + 72x - 1120 = 0

x² + 18x - 280 = 0

x² - 10x + 28x - 280 = 0

x(x - 10) + 28(x - 10) = 0

(x - 10)(x + 28) = 0

So, x=10, -28.

Hence, the width be 10 feet.

given a rectangle of length a and width b if A and B are both rational numbers would the perimeter be irrational or rational? Gi
Kitty [74]
The perimeter would be rational due to both the width and length being rational numbers. A rational number is a number that can be written as a fraction such as 8 it can be written as 8/1, but a irrational would be a decimal number which in this case there would be none because both length and width is rational number. For example, Lets say the width is 8 and the length is 10. once both are written into fraction form such as 8/1 and 10/1 we add them to get a perimeter of 18.
Hope this helps!

A person jogged 10 times along the perimeter of a rectangular field at the rate of 12 kilometers per hour for 30 minutes. If the
notsponge [240]

Answer:

The area of the rectangular field is 20,000 square meters.

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Let's review the information given to us to answer the question correctly:

Number of times a person jogged along the rectangular field = 10

Speed of the person jogging = 12 km per hour

Time he/she jogged = 30 minutes = 0.5 hours

Length of the field = twice its width

2. Find the area of the field in square meters.

Step A: Let's calculate the distance the person jogged

Let's recall the formula of the speed:

Speed = Distance/Time

Distance = Speed * Time

Replacing with the values we know:

Distance = 12 * 0.5

Distance = 6 kilometers

Step B: Let's calculate the perimeter of the rectangular field

Distance jogged = ¨Perimeter * 10

6 kilometers = Perimeter * 10

Perimeter = 6/10

Perimeter = 0.6 kilometers = 0.6 * 1,000 = 600 meters

Perimeter = 2 * Length + 2 * Width

x = Width of the rectangular field

2x = Length of the rectangular field

600 = 2 * 2x + 2 * x

600 = 4x + 2x

600 = 6x

x = 600/6 = 100 meters ⇒ 2x = 200 meters

Step C: Let's calculate the area of the rectangular field

Let's recall the formula of the area of a rectangle:

A = Length * Width

A = 200 * 100

A = 20,000 m² (square meters)

myrzilka [38]

Answer: each of the students took 1/4 of an eraser home.

Step-by-step explanation:

On the last period our teacher had 1/2 of an eraser left. She gave it equally to 2 students. This means that the amount of eraser that each student takes home would be

(1/2)/2 = 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/4 of an eraser. Converting to decimal, it becomes 0.25 of an eraser.
