Martin Luther separated from the Roman Catholic Church because he was against the sale of indulgences, which Pope Leo X granted.

Luther questioned what the Roman Catholic Church practiced and didn't like that they lied to the people.

Pope Leo X excommunicated, or banned Martin Luther from the Church, for posting his 95 Theses and "lying" about the Church and its' practices.
