Answer:

d. a specific phobia

Explanation:

A specific phobia is a term used to refer to an irrational fear, a fear that has no reason to exist but is strong enough to prevent a person from doing certain activities. An example of this is Laverne's fear of cats, and no cat has triggered that fear, but Laverne is so terrified of the animal she avoids, including going to the house of friends who have cats.

B is not correct because although the author actually contests the first sentence, the author does not accept the findings in the following sentence.

C is not correct since the author thinks the first sentence is invalid, but the second sentence does not validate that sentence.

D is not correct since both the first and second sentences oppose the author's opinion.

Why is the drug actinomycin used only in research applications or in the treatment of cancer?
Oxana [17]

Actinomycin is used only in research applications or cancer treatment because it is active against both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

How does actinomycin work?

 • Actinomycin D inhibits RNA synthesis in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells thus blocking transcription.
 • Actinomycin was first isolated from Streptomyces antibioticus.
 • These bind to the DNA at the site of transcription initiation complex and prevent the activity of DNA dependent RNA polymerase.
 • By blocking the metabolic machinery of cells (RNA synthesis), actinomycin prevents the growth of cells. Therefore used in cancer treatment to prevent uncontrolled proliferation of cells.
 • As it can also act on eukaryotic cells so it is not used as an antimicrobial drug as it can harm the cells of our body.
 • However it can be used in research to prevent microbial growth in petri plates.
