Since the presence of ribosomes makes the endoplasmic reticulum appear rough, they are called the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The membrane of rough endoplasmic reticulum is continuous with the outer nuclear membrane and is present outside the nucleus. Therefore, ribosomes are also attached to the outside of the nucleus.
