le! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! –Hamlet, William Shakespeare What is the effect of Hamlet’s use of similes in this passage? It creates a feeling of greatness by comparing humans to divine beings. It creates a feeling of smallness by comparing something powerful to something weak. Free tip: Remember this: A simale is a comparison using like or as.

The simales in this exerpt are

In action how like an angel!

In apprehension how like a god!

A) It creates a feeling of greatness by comparing humans to divine beings. This is the answer because divine beings are great and powerful, and a human being compared to one would be considered an honor.

B) It creates a feeling of smallness by comparing something powerful to something weak. This is not the answer, because it is not showing differences as much as it is showing simalarities between them.

C) It creates a feeling of peach by comparing angels to gods. This is not the answer because it is not comparing angel and a god, it is comparing a human and an angle and comparing a human and a god.

D) It creates a feeling of sadness by comparing something beatiful to something plain. This is not the answer because it is not showing how one is better than the others, it is showing how they are similar.

Read the passage from The Odyssey - Penelope. Ruses serve my turn to draw the time out—first a close-grained web I had the happy
Nat2105 [25]

So every day I wove on the great loom, but every night by torchlight I unwove it; and so for three years I deceived the Akhaians.

This line shows that Penelope is clever because at the beginning of the passage, Penelope requests that the suitors leave her alone and not ask her to marry until she finishes weaving a death shroud she had already started because if she were not allowed to finish, her efforts at beginning the shroud would have been in vain. To this appeal to their emotions, the suitors agree. And, knowing the suitors would respect her request, at the end of a day of weaving, she would undo all she had done in the daytime thereby keeping the suitors at bay for 3 years.
