Answer:

q=\dfrac{71}{8}

Step-by-step explanation:

The given equation is

2x^2-5x=-12

Rewrite the given equation in the form of

2(x-p)^2+q=0       ... (i)

We need to find the value of q.

The given equation can be rewritten as

2(x^2-\dfrac{5}{2}x)=-12

Now, add and subtract square of half of coefficient of x inside the parenthesis.

2(x^2-\dfrac{5}{2}x+(\dfrac{5}{4})^2-(\dfrac{5}{4})^2)=-12

2(x^2-\dfrac{5}{2}x+(\dfrac{5}{4})^2)-2(\dfrac{5}{4})^2)=-12

2(x-\dfrac{5}{4})^2-2(\dfrac{25}{16})=-12

Add 12 on both sides.

2(x-\dfrac{5}{4})^2-\dfrac{25}{8}+12=0

2(x-\dfrac{5}{4})^2+\dfrac{96-25}{8}=0

2(x-\dfrac{5}{4})^2+\dfrac{71}{8}=0      ... (ii)

From (i) and (ii), we get

q=\dfrac{71}{8}

Therefore, q=\dfrac{71}{8}.

2x^2 - 5x + 12 = 0
Factoring out the leading coefficient:
2(x^2 - 5/2 x) + 12 = 0
Completing the square:
2[(x - 5/4)^2 - 25/16] + 12 = 0
2(x - 5/4)^2 - 25/8 + 12 = 0
2(x - 5/4)^2 + 71/8 = 0
q = 71/8

Answer:

1) g = -8 (one solution)

2) b = 0 (infinitely many solutions)

3) w = 5/6 (one solution)

4) c = 0 (infinitely many solutions)

Step-by-step explanation:

1) 1/2g -4 = 2g - 1/2g + 4

1/2g -2g +1/2 g = 8

-g = 8

2) 5.3-5.3 = 2.1b + b - 3.1b

0=0

3) 3/4w+ 3/4w = 10/4 - 5/4

3/2w = 5/4

w = (5/4) / (3/2)

w = 5/6

4) 5.7c + 3.2c - 7.8c - 1.1c = 1.5 - 1.5

0 = 0

Of the following points, name all that lie on the same horizontal line
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

(-5,7) (5,-7)

Step-by-step explanation:

When you are told to lable, show or name the points that lie on a horizontal line, it basically means that; when a line is drawn, it passes through the selected points without changing the direction when joined together (horizontally).

From the above problem, (-5,7) and (5,-7) lie in the same horizontal line.

For (7,-5) and (-7,5) lie in the same vertical line.

Thereforeour, the answer is (-5,7) (5,-7).
