In Western societies, social stratification tends to be divided into upper class, middle class, and low class, in which each can be subdivided.

Likewise, social stratification is divided into two systems: the closed system in which people have zero or almost no possibility to advance to a better class, and classes don't interact much with each other; and the open system in which people have opportunities to move and interact between classes, this latter is the most common nowadays.
