With the emergence of the industrial Revolution, many changes were made in the living patterns of people in the cities. More people started to migrate to the cities for better opportunities. As a result livelihood started to shift from farms to factories. Unfortunately with mass migration came overpopulation. Many of those who traveled to the cities were now living in cramped living quarters and tried to make the most of it. One of the negative changes was the increase in pollution especially in air and water. Rivers started to filled with trash and refuse from factories and from residents who live in the cities. Polluted water and poor living conditions also led to emergence of diseases like tuberculosis. This prompted the government to improve the sewage and treating the water supply as well banning tenements.
