The empíre started in 1464 and ended in 1591. Sunni Ali was the first ruler of the Songhai Empire. He was a great warrior and conqueror that expanded the Empires' territory to Djenne and Timbuktu. But it was ruler Askia Muhammed who took the empire to its better years.
