Hey there,

As seeing the (mathematics's above) I would be more willing list the steps, but to just tell you the answer.

\boxed{y = -2.56} and also \boxed{y =1.88}

Hope this helps.

Combination method: add the two equations together

5)      <span>4x-9y=1                                    6)  3x - 2y = 14
  +( - 4x+6y=-2 )                                 + (2x + 2y = 6)
----------------------                                 -------------------
         0 - 5y = -1                                      5x + 0 = 20

-5y = -1                                                   5x = 20

isolate the y                                            isolate the x

-5y / -5 = -1/-5                                        5x/5 = 20/5

y = 1/5                                                     x = 4

</span>4x-9y=1                                                   3x - 2y = 14
4x - 9(1/5) = 1                                         3(4) - 2y = 14
4x - 9/5 = 1                                              12 - 2y = 14
4x - 9/5 (+9/5) = 1 (+9/5)                         12 (-12) - 2y = 14 (-12)
4x = 14/5                                                -2y = 2
4x/4 = 14/5(/4)                                        -2y(/-2) = 2(/-2)
x = 14/20                                                 y = -1

Elimination method

7)  4x + 3y = 29 + (5x + 2y = 24)
   eliminate one of the variables by multiply the number to both sides

2 (4x + 3y = 29) + 3 (5x + 2y = 24)

    8x + 6y = 58
-( 15x + 6y = 72)
----------------------
    -7x   = - 14
-7x/-7 = -14/-7

x = 2

4(x) + 3y = 29
4(2) + 3y = 29
3y + 8 = 29
3y + 8 (-8) = 29 (-8)
3y = 21
3y/3 = 21/3

y = 7

8)   like #7, you must   eliminate one of the variables by multiply the number to both sides

-4x - 2y = 14
-10x + 7y = -25

7(-4x - 2y = 14)
-2(-10x + 7y = -25)

-28x - 14y = 98
- (20x -14y = -25)
-----------------------
-48x          = 123
-48x/-48 = 123/-48
x = -2.56

-4(-2.56) - 2y = 14
10.24 - 2y = 14
10.24(-10.24) - 2y = 14 (-10.24)
-2y = 3.76
-2y/-2 = 3.76/-2
y = -1.88

hope this helps

when 6 is subtracted from the square of a number, the result is 5 times the number. Find the negative solution.
sveta [45]

When 6 is subtracted from the square of a number, the result is 5 times the number, then the negative solution is -1

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given that when 6 is subtracted from the square of a number, the result is 5 times the number

To find: negative solution

Let "a" be the unknown number

Let us analyse the given sentence

square of a number = a^2

6 is subtracted from the square of a number = a^2 - 6

5 times the number = 5 \times a

<em><u>So we can frame a equation as:</u></em>

6 is subtracted from the square of a number = 5 times the number

a^2 - 6 = 5 \times a\\\\a^2 -6 -5a = 0\\\\a^2 -5a -6 = 0

<em><u>Let us solve the above quadratic equation</u></em>

For a quadratic equation ax^2 + bx + c = 0 where a \neq 0

x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4 a c}}{2 a}

Here in this problem,

a^2-5 a-6=0 \text { we have } a=1 \text { and } b=-5 \text { and } c=-6

Substituting the values in above quadratic formula, we get

\begin{array}{l}{a=\frac{-(-5) \pm \sqrt{(-5)^{2}-4(1)(-6)}}{2 \times 1}} \\\\ {a=\frac{5 \pm \sqrt{25+16}}{2}=\frac{5 \pm \sqrt{49}}{2}} \\\\ {a=\frac{5 \pm 7}{2}}\end{array}

We have two solutions for "a"

\begin{array}{l}{a=\frac{5+7}{2} \text { and } a=\frac{5-7}{2}} \\\\ {a=\frac{12}{2} \text { and } a=\frac{-2}{2}}\end{array}

<h3>a = 6 or a = -1</h3>

We have asked negative solution. So a = -1

Thus the negative solution is -1

Question
marin [14]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

From the table attached,

x-intercept of the linear function is, the value of 'x' when f(x) = 0

x = 3 [x-intercept]

Function 'g' is the sum of 2 and the cube root of the sum of three time x and 1.

g(x) = 2+\sqrt[3]{3x+1}

For x-intercept,

g(x) = 0

2+\sqrt[3]{3x+1}=0

3x + 1 = (-2)³

3x + 1 = -8

3x = -8 - 1

3x = -9

x = -3

Therefore, the x-intercept of function 'f' is different or greater than the x-intercept of function g.

A triangle has one angle measuring 3X degrees a second angle measures 2X +20°
Lena [83]
Answer : x = 20

Explanation :
3x + 2x +20 + 4x - 20 = 180

(3+2+4=9)

9x + 20 - 20
The 20s cancel each other out because one is positive and the other is negative

9x = 180

9x/9 = 180/9

X = 180 divided by 9

X = 20
