How does finding a pattern help you complete a table

If the table has a certian pattern once u find it itll be easier to answer and example is

2,4,6,8,10,__,14,16,18,20

in this example the pattern is plus two so when u figur that ou itll become easy cuz then all u have to do is og to where the missing number is add 2 to the previous number and u have ur answer

I don't know how to explain. I used GeoGebra and I put the coordinate down and then made lines. Line AC and line BD. Then I put a point on where it intersects and it comes out to (1.5,1). You can also use distance formula, but that is more work.
