Wrongful Discharge. Stephen Fredrick, a pilot for Simmons Airlines Corp., criticized the safety of the aircraft that Simmons use

d on many of its flights and warned the airline about possible safety problems. Simmons took no action. After one of the planes crashed, Fredrick appeared on the television program Good Morning America to discuss his safety concerns. The same day, Fredrick refused to allow employees of Simmons to search his personal bags before a flight that he was scheduled to work. Claiming insubordination, the airline terminated Fredrick. Fredrick filed a suit in a federal district court against Simmons, claiming, among other things, retaliatory discharge for his public criticism of the safety of Simmons’s aircraft and that this discharge violated the public policy of providing for safe air travel. Simmons responded that an employee who "goes public" with his or her concerns should not be protected by the law. Will the court agree with Simmons?

A total of $44,000 is invested in two municipal bonds that pay 5.75% and 7.25% simple interest. The investor wants an annual int
Nataliya [291]

Answer:

Amount invested at 5.75% = $30,000

Amount invested at 7.25% = $14,000

Explanation:

Let the amount invested

at 5.75% = X

at 7.25% = Y

According to given condition

X + Y = $44,000 ( Eq 1)

and

0.0575X + 0.0725Y = $2,740 ( Eq 2)

By multiplying ( Eq 1) with 0.0575

0.0575X + 0.0575Y = $2,530 ( Eq 3)

By subtracting ( Eq 3) from ( Eq 2)

0.0725Y - 0.0575Y = $2,740 - $2,530

0.015Y = 210

Y = 210 / 0.015

Y = $14,000

X + $14,000 = $44,000

X = $44,000 - $14,000

X = $30,000

Check:

$30,000 x 5.75% + $14,000 x 7.25% = $2,740

$2,740 = $2,740

Number of quarters= 3*4= 12

Interest rate= 0.0545/4= 0.01363

To calculate the final value, we need to use the following formula:

FV= {A*[(1+i)^n-1]}/i

A= quarterly deposit

FV= {32,000*[(1.01363^12)-1]} / 0.01363

Salsk061 [2.6K]

Answer:

Journal entry

Explanation:

Before passing the journal entry we need to do the following calculations

Uncollected amount is

= $4,400 × 50%

= $2,200

Uncollected amount is

= ($4,400 - $2,200) × 0.03

= $2,200 × 0.03

= $66

So, the total amount is

= $2,200 + $66

= $2,266

Now the journal entry is

Bad debt expense $2,266

        To Allowance for uncollectible accounts $2,266
