Biofilms are a group of microorganisms that adheres to surface mostly due to individual free flowing bacteria which other organisms join and grows together with. They release slimy glue-like extracellular polymeric substance that provides them the ability to attach to cell surfaces, resist drugs, disinfectants and sterilization. Microbes in biofilm are at an advantage compared to individual microbes because they share nutrients and are protected from conditions that are harmful to them.
