As Consumerism is a proposed social and economic model that encouraged the acquisition of goods and services in great or mass amounts, we see today how the world presents us a great and huge array of products. Together with the industrial revolution, during the 20th century, mass production led often to overproduction that in turn would grow beyond consumer demand, and so manufacturers turned to mechanisms like planned obsolescence and advertising to manipulate the consumer behaviour . Many consuming can be seen as unnecesary, or waste since a lot of cases this ocurrs relating to a social style of showing status, and it lacks functionality or makes products useful in a short time.

Still in economics, consumerism applies to economic policies which emphasise high consuming levels. Broadly speaking, it is the consideration that individual's free choice of consumers should highly orient choices rendering a society with a healtier economy.
