The American Tax system has the same mystical properties as the Oracle of Delphi. This one is an example. If you've never seen it before, don't try and fill out your taxes yourself. You won't get it right.

First you should realize that the wrong way to do this is to take 25% or 50000 which is $12500. Though Julie's tax is pretty steep it's not quite that bad.

Anyway, let's do this the correct way. A progressive income tax works down the table.

You start off at 10% and work your way up to 25%. That's why it comes to less than 12500.

Tax Range      Julie's amt     %         Tax amount method     Tax

0 to 9225         9225          10%      9225 * 10/100               922.50

9226-37450    28224         15%     28224*15/100              4233.60

50000 - 37451  12549        25%     12439*25/100              3137.25

Total Tax                                                                               8293.35

The Answer is B

Julie has $50000 taxable income. First, find the range and the corresponding Tax Rate from the table. $50,000 is in between $37,451 - $90,750, and so you will use the 25% tax rate.

Multiply $50000 with 25%. Note that 25% = 0.25:

50,000 * 0.25 = 12,500

Julie will pay D) 12,500 this year.

Horatio has taken out a $12,450 unsubsidized Stafford loan to pay for his four-year undergraduate education. The loan has an int
abruzzese [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

We solve by first, getting the quota Horatio pays on his loan:

PV \div \frac{1-(1+r)^{-time} }{rate} = C\\

PV 12,450

time: 10 yearss x 12 months per year = 120

monthly rate: 7.3% / 12 = 0.006083333

12450 \div \frac{1-(1+0.006083333)^{-120} }{0.006083333} = C\\

C  $ 146.487

Now, we miltiply the quota by the quantity of payment ans subtract the principal to get the amount of interest paid:

quota times quantity of monthly payment: total amount paid

less principal: interest paid.

146.49 x 120 - 12,450 = 5,128,80

Explanation:

Real estate related investments involves the purchase, management, renting and sale of real estate properties with the aim of making profit.

Real estate investment is capital intensive and has low liquidity compared to other forms of investment.

This will be a good option for the conservative investor because real estate investment is stable and not prone to huge losses that can be incurred in the money markets. Also real estate is not affected by equities market. So will be a safety net in case of failure in the equity market.

A new corporate bond is being offered for $930. The bond has a face value of $1,000 and matures in 10 years. The coupon rate is
PilotLPTM [1.2K]

Answer:

The answer is 7.65%

Explanation:

The cost of capital is equal to the cost of debt in this example as it involves a debt instrument. The formula for the cost of debt is as follows:

(Interest Expense x (1 – Tax Rate) ÷  (Amount of Debt – Debt Acquisition Fees + Premium on Debt – Discount on Debt)

In the example, the given values are the following:

Interest Expense = 7% x $1,000 = $70 (no tax rate was provided)

Amount of debt = $1,000 (face value of the bond)

Debt acquisition fee = $15

Discount on debt = $70 ($1,000 face value vs. the $930 proceeds of the bond, the bond was issued at a discount)

Solution:

$70 ÷ ($1,000 - $15 - $70) = 7.65% cost of capital (cost of debt)
