The sum and difference identity cos(x + y) / sin(x - y) = 1 - cotxcoty / cotx - coty is verified

<u>Solution:</u>

Given expression is:

\frac{\cos (x+y)}{\sin (x-y)}=\frac{1-\cot x \cot y}{\cot x-\cot y}

Let us first solve L.H.S

\frac{\cos (x+y)}{\sin (x-y)}    ------ EQN 1

We have to use the sum and difference formulas

cos(A + B) = cosAcosB – sinAsinB

sin(A - B) = sinAcosB – cosAsinB

Applying this in eqn 1 we get,

=\frac{\cos x \cos y-\sin x \sin y}{\sin x \cos y-\sin y \cos x}

\text { Taking sinx } \times \text { siny as common }

=\frac{\sin x \sin y\left(\frac{\cos x \cos y}{\sin x \sin y}-1\right)}{\sin x \sin y\left(\frac{\cos y}{\sin y}-\frac{\cos x}{\sin x}\right)}

\begin{array}{l}{=\frac{\frac{\cos x}{\sin x} \times \frac{\cos y}{\sin y}-1}{\frac{\cos y}{\sin y}-\frac{\cos x}{\sin x}}} \\\\ {=\frac{\cot x \times \cot y-1}{\cot y-\cot x}} \\\\ {=\frac{\cot x \cot y-1}{\cot y-\cot x}}\end{array}

Taking -1 as common from numerator and denominator we get,

\begin{array}{l}{=\frac{-(1-\cot x \cot y)}{-(\cot x-\cot y)}} \\\\ {=\frac{(1-\cot x \cot y)}{(\cot x-\cot y)}}\end{array}

= R.H.S

Thus L.H.S = R.H.S

Thus the given expression has been verified using sum and difference identity

I need help finding the values of x and y!!
faust18 [17]

Answer:

x= 22

y = 35

Step-by-step explanation:

The base angles of a isosceles triangle are equal

3x-11 = 2x+11

Subtract 2x from each side

3x-2x -11 = 2x-2x+11

x-11 = 11

Add 11 to each side

x-11+11 = 11+11

x = 22

The sum of all the angles in a triangle is 180

3x -11 + 2x+11 + 2y = 180

Combine like terms

5x +2y = 180

5*22 + 2y = 180

110 + 2y = 180

Subtract 110 from each side

110+2y-110 = 180-110

2y = 70

Divide by 2

2y/2 =70/2

y = 35

Dean invested $1100 into a bond. When the bond's maturity date was reached five
Oksanka [162]

Answer:

About 36%.

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for the rate of return on investment is the total value minus the initial cost divided by the initial cost.

The total value is $1,500. The initial cost is $1,100.

(1,500 - 1,100) / 1,100 = 400 / 1,100 = 4 / 11 = 0.363636363636

So, Dean's rate of return on investment is about 36%.

Hope this helps!

A total of 714 tickets were sold for the school play. They were either adult tickets or student tickets. There were 64 more
VladimirAG [237]

Answer:

714 is the total number that is sold, if there is 64 more tickets sold for students then adults, then do 714 divided by 2 and add 32 to get the number for students, and for adults do 714 divided by 2 and subtract by 32. so, like this 714/2+32=389 tickets for students and 714/2-32=325 for adults. Hope this helps

A cheetah runs 296 feet in 4 seconds. How far could a cheetah run in 10<br> seconds at this rate?
melomori [17]

Answer:

740 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The speed of the cheetah is 74 feet per second:

speed = distance ÷ time

= 296 ÷ 4 = 74 feet per second

In 10 seconds:

distance = speed × time

= 74 × 10

= 740 feet
