9 - 7 3/8 = ?  You could borrow:  8 + 1 - 7 3/8.  Subtract 7 from 8 and get 1; subtract 3/8 from 1 and get 5/8.  This leaves you with 1 5/8.  Note how I have subtracted the integer 7 from the integer 9 and then the fraction 3/8 from the whole number 1.

Alternatively, you could write 9 as 72/8 and 7 3/8 as 59/8.  Subtract 59/8 from 72/8 and get 13/8, which is equal to 1 5/8 (same answer as before).

Alternatively, you could write 9 as 9.000 and 7 3/8 as 7.375.  Then
9.000-7.375 = 1.625 = 1 5/8 (same answer as before).

The Super Lotto Plus game consists of a player selecting five different numbers from 1 to 47 and a mega number from 1 to 27 (the
Gnesinka [82]

Answer:

1/41416353 probability of all five numbers and the mega number matching the winning numbers

Step-by-step explanation:

A probability is the number of desired outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes.

In this question, the order of the numbers is not important. So we use the combinations formula to solve this question.

Combinations formula:

C_{n,x} is the number of different combinations of x objects from a set of n elements, given by the following formula.

C_{n,x} = \frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}

Probability of the five numbers matching:

Desired outcomes: 1 -> the matching numbers

Total outcomes: 5 from a set of 47. So

T = C_{47,5} = \frac{47!}{5!(47-5)!} = 1533939

Probability:

p_{S} = \frac{1}{1533939}

Probability of the mega number matching:

1 from a set of 27. So

p_M = \frac{1}{27}

Probability of both matching:

Independent events, so we multiply the probabilities:

p = p_S*p_M = \frac{1}{1533939}*\frac{1}{27} = \frac{1}{41416353}

1/41416353 probability of all five numbers and the mega number matching the winning numbers

A line that contains the point (-8,-1) and is perpendicular to -15x +3y = 9
zaharov [31]
Put the other line in point slope form...(solve for y :D )

3y=15x+9

y=5x+3, so this line has a slope of 5

For a line to be perpendicular to another the slopes have to be negative reciprocals of each other...mathematically...

s1*s2=-1

So for the other line to be perpendicular to the first:

5m=-1, m=-1/5, thus our other line (so far) is:

y=b-x/5, now we can use the point (-8,-1) to solve for the y-intercept, "b":

-1=b-(-8)/5

-1=b+8/5

-1=b+1.6

b=-2.6

So the perpendicular line that contains the point (-8,-1) is:

y=-0.2x-2.6
