Answer : The balanced reduction half-reaction is:

3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

Explanation :

Redox reaction or Oxidation-reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which the oxidation and reduction reaction takes place simultaneously.

Oxidation reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance looses its electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element increases. Or we can say that in oxidation, the loss of electrons takes place.

Reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance gains electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element decreases. Or we can say that in reduction, the gain of electrons takes place.

The given balanced redox reaction is :

Al(s)+Cu^{2+}(aq)\rightarrow Al^{3+}(aq)+Cu(s)

The half oxidation-reduction reactions are:

Oxidation reaction : Al\rightarrow Al^{3+}+3e^-

Reduction reaction : Cu^{2+}+2e^-\rightarrow Cu

In order to balance the electrons, we multiply the oxidation reaction by 2 and reduction reaction by 3 and then added both equation, we get the balanced redox reaction.

Oxidation reaction : 2Al\rightarrow 2Al^{3+}+6e^-

Reduction reaction : 3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

The balanced redox reaction will be:

2Al(s)+3Cu^{2+}(aq)\rightarrow 2Al^{3+}(aq)+3Cu(s)

Thus, the balanced reduction half-reaction is:

3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

The energy change, ∆H, associated with the following reaction is +81 kJ. NBr3(g) + 3 H2O(g) → 3 HOBr(g) + NH3(g) What is the exp
xeze [42]

Answer:

162 kJ

Explanation:

The reaction given by the problem is:

 • NBr₃(g) + 3 H₂O(g) → 3 HOBr(g) + NH₃(g) ∆H = +81 kJ

If we turn it around, we have:

 • 3 HOBr(g) + NH₃(g) → NBr₃(g) + 3 H₂O(g) ∆H = -81 kJ

If we think now of HOBr and NH₃ as our reactants, then now we need to find out which one will be the limiting reactant when we have 9 moles of HOBr and 2 moles of NH₃:

 • When we have 1 mol NH₃, we need 3 mol HOBr. So when we have 2 moles NH₃, we need 6 moles HOBr. We have more than 6 moles HOBr so that's our reactant in excess, thus NH₃ is our limiting reactant.

-81 kJ is our energy change when there's one mol of NH₃ reacting, so we multiply that value by two when there's two moles of NH₃ reacting. The answer is 81*2 = 162 kJ.

Would the following errors increase, decrease, or have no effect on the calculated moles of gas collected in the experiment? Exp
Nina [5.8K]
a. If the actual mass of Magnesium used was larger then the measured and the amount of gas produced should be greater
b. when gas was cooler than its surroundings its density would be greater and the volume would appear to be smaller. This is because the gas molecules are very active and when heated they will expand.
so they both bound increase the calculated moles of gas collected in the experiment

Consider these two entries from a fictional table of standard reduction potentials.
Vika [28.1K]

Answer:

1.89 V

Explanation:

To calculate the standard cell potential, subtract the reduction potential of the anode from the reduction potential of the cathode.

So for your calculation,

-0.22 V - (-2.11 V)= 1.89 V
