Answer :  The balanced reduction half-reaction is:

3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

Explanation :

Redox reaction or Oxidation-reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which the oxidation and reduction reaction takes place simultaneously.

Oxidation reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance looses its electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element increases. Or we can say that in oxidation, the loss of electrons takes place.

Reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance gains electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element decreases. Or we can say that in reduction, the gain of electrons takes place.

The given balanced redox reaction is :

Al(s)+Cu^{2+}(aq)\rightarrow Al^{3+}(aq)+Cu(s)

The half oxidation-reduction reactions are:

Oxidation reaction : Al\rightarrow Al^{3+}+3e^-

Reduction reaction : Cu^{2+}+2e^-\rightarrow Cu

In order to balance the electrons, we multiply the oxidation reaction by 2 and reduction reaction by 3 and then added both equation, we get the balanced redox reaction.

Oxidation reaction : 2Al\rightarrow 2Al^{3+}+6e^-

Reduction reaction : 3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

The balanced redox reaction will be:

2Al(s)+3Cu^{2+}(aq)\rightarrow 2Al^{3+}(aq)+3Cu(s)

Thus, the balanced reduction half-reaction is:

3Cu^{2+}+6e^-\rightarrow 3Cu

Boron sulfide, B2S3(s), reacts violently with water to form dissolved boric acid (H3BO3) and hydrogen sulfide gas
Gwar [14]

The equation structure for the above mentioned reaction can be written as

B_{2} S_{3}+6 H_{2} O \rightarrow 2 H_{3} B O_{3}+3 H_{2} S \uparrow

<u>Explanation:</u>

Considering the above reaction, When Boron sulfide, reacts with water more violently to form boric acid and hydrogen sulfide gas.

B_{2} S_{3}+H_{2} O \rightarrow H_{3} B O_{3}+H_{2} S \uparrow

In order to balance the equation, we can do as follows. There are 2 B - atoms on both sides of the equation, but only 2 H - atoms, and one O - atom on LHS, so we have to balance it by putting 6 in front of water and 2 in front of Boric acid and 3 in front of hydrogen sulphide gas, so that we have 2 B - atoms, 3 - S atoms, 12 H - atoms on both sides of the equation, and it is balanced. Balanced equation is given as,

B_{2} S_{3}+6 H_{2} O \rightarrow 2 H_{3} B O_{3}+3 H_{2} S \uparrow

Thus a Balanced equation of the above mentioned reaction is written.

Explain the principle upon which separation is achieved in a distillation column.
aalyn [17]

Answer:

The fundamental principle involves the formation of equilibrium and separation into distillate and bottoms governed by the equilibrium composition curve , number of stages and the purity with which the distillate is required.

Explanation:

Distillation is a type of the separation process by physical means of a mixture on basis of its difference in boiling point or vapor pressure .

Where we can just heat the mixture and separate out the components i.e the component with lower boiling point will form vapor easily and can be later condensed whereas the component with higher boiling point will remain as residue.

In case of a distillation column the same principle is applied at different stages to separate multiple components .The stages are known as trays or plates . In general , there is a certain liquid on each of the plate, and the arrangements are made for the ascending vapors to pass through the liquid and make contact with it . The fundamental principle involves the formation of equilibrium and separation into distillate and bottoms governed by the equilibrium composition curve , number of stages and the purity with which the distillate is required.
