Yes, we can obtain a diagonal matrix by multiplying two non diagonal matrix.

Consider the matrix multiplication below

\left[\begin{array}{cc}a&b\\c&d\end{array}\right]   \left[\begin{array}{cc}e&f\\g&h\end{array}\right] =  \left[\begin{array}{cc}a e+b g&a f+b h\\c e+d g&c f+d h\end{array}\right]

For the product to be a diagonal matrix,

a f + b h = 0 ⇒ a f = -b h
and c e + d g = 0 ⇒ c e = -d g

Consider the following sets of values

a=1, \ \ b=2, \ \ c=3, \ \ d = 4, \ \ e=\frac{1}{3}, \ \ f=-1, \ \ g=-\frac{1}{4}, \ \ h=\frac{1}{2}

The the matrix product becomes:

\left[\begin{array}{cc}1&2\\3&4\end{array}\right] \left[\begin{array}{cc}\frac{1}{3}&-1\\-\frac{1}{4}&\frac{1}{2}\end{array}\right] = \left[\begin{array}{cc}\frac{1}{3}-\frac{1}{2}&-1+1\\1-1&-3+2\end{array}\right]= \left[\begin{array}{cc}-\frac{1}{6}&0\\0&-1\end{array}\right]

Thus, as can be seen we can obtain a diagonal matrix that is a product of non diagonal matrices.

Yes, we can obtain a diagonal matrix by multiplying two non-diagonal matrices. A diagonal matrix is a matrix where all the elements beyond the diagonal are zeros. This is an example.
\left[\begin{array}{ccc}1&3&4\\0&-8&-9\\0&0&- \frac{55}{8}  \end{array}\right]  \cdot   \left[\begin{array}{ccc}1&-3&- \frac{5}{8} \\0&1&- \frac{9}{8} \\0&0&1\end{array}\right]  =   \left[\begin{array}{ccc}1&0&0\\0&-8&0\\0&0&- \frac{55}{8} \end{array}\right]

A circular jogging track forms the edge of a circular lake that has a diameter of 2 miles. Johanna walked once around the track
harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

  C.  2.0 < t < 2.5

Step-by-step explanation:

  time = distance / speed

The circumference of the lake is given by ...

  C = πd = 2π miles ≈ 6.28 miles

Then Johanna's time is ...

  (6.28 mi)/(3 mi/h) ≈ 2.09 h

This time is in the interval (2, 2.5), so matches choice C.

___

<em>Alternate solution</em>

If we take pi to be 3, then this boils down to ...

  2×3/3 = 2 . . . hours

Pi is on the order of 5% more than 3, so her time will be on the order of 5% more than 2 hours, or just above 2, but not as great as 2.5 hours. This sort of estimating can get you to the correct answer without a calculator.

Romashka [77]

Given :

A water well rig has dug to a height , H = 60 feet after one full day of continuous use .

To Find :

If the height is currently 143.6 feet how time it been running .

Solution :

It is given that height after 24 hours of use is 60 feet .

So , height loose in 1 hours is :

h=\dfrac{60}{24}\ feet\\\\h=2.5 \ feet

Now , time taken to cover a height of 143.6 feet is :

t = \dfrac{143.6}{2.5}\ hours\\\\t=57.44\ hours

Therefore , time taken is 57.44 hours .

Hence , this is the required solution .

The Bluejay Apartments is a new development and is in the process of structuring its lease agreements. The company would like to
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

The Bluejay Apartments

1. Tax Effects of the following Alternatives:

i. $1,000 damage deposit with no rent prepayment

No tax will be paid by The Bluejay Apartments until the deposit will no longer be refunded.

ii. $500 damage deposit and $500 rent for the final month of the lease

Tax will be paid on the rental income of $500 and on the $500 if it will no longer be refunded.  If it is taken as part of the rent income for a month, then tax will be paid on a total income of $1,000.

iii. $1,000 rent for the final two months of the lease and no damage deposit

Tax will be paid on the rent income of $1,000.

b) From a tax point of view, option i is recommended.

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the IRS, a security or damage deposit is not taxable when it is received by the landlord.  It becomes taxable income when the landlord is no longer obligated to return it to the tenant.  The reason a damage deposit is not taxed is that it is recorded as an asset and not an expense or income.
