How do atoms in a molecule stick together?

Chemistry

Molecules are groups of atoms that stay together because of chemical bonds. These can be covalent bonds, where electrons are shared between atoms or ionic bonds where the difference in (positive or negative) charge between ions causes them to attract. To summarize, its because of chemical bonds. <span />

At the center of every atom lies a small, dense ____________ that is positively charged
Sedbober [7]
At the center of every atom lies a small, dense "nucleus" that is positively charged.

Atom is the smallest unit of matter. It is made up of electrons, protons and neutrons. Electrons are negatively charged particles that are found scattered in different energy levels outside the nucleus. Protons are positively charged particles present inside the nucleus. Neutrons do not carry charge and found inside the nucleus. Thus, protons and neutrons make up the nucleus of an atom. Since, protons are positively charged and neutrons are uncharged particles, the charge of nucleus becomes positive.

A crime lab received a 235-gram sample. The sample had a molecular mass of 128.1 grams and the empirical formula is CH2O. How ma
kvv77 [185]

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of sample = 235g

Molecular mass of sample = 128.1g

Empirical formula = CH₂O

Unknown:

Mass of each element in the sample = ?

Solution:

To solve this problem, we must know that the empirical formula of any compound is the simplest ratio of the atoms it contains. This is not the true formula of the compound.

      Molecular formula = (Empirical formula)ₙ

Let us find the molecular mass of the sample;

      CH₂O = 12 + 2(1) + 16 = 30g

      128.1  = (30)n

          n = 4

The molecular formula of the compound is;    (CH₂O)₄  = C₄H₈O₄

Now to find the grams of each element in the sample;

Express the molecular mass of each element and that of the compound as a fraction and multiply with the given mass;

    For C;

              \frac{4 x 12}{128.1}   x   235\\  = 88.06g

          H; \frac{8 x 1}{128.1}  x  235  = 14.68g

          O: \frac{4 x 16}{128.1} x 235 = 117.41g

how is rock breaking down into small pieces different from a fence rusting? use chemical and mechanical weathering to help expla
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

Rusting is a chemical change while breaking down of ricks may just be due to mechanical weathering of rocks

Explanation:

Rusting is a chemical reaction. Rust refers to hydrated iron III oxide. This substance is soft and flakes easily hence making the iron soft and brittle. The entire process of rusting is an electrochemical reaction set up with water as the electrolyte.

Mechanical weathering is the process of breaking big rocks into smaller pieces. The process usually occurs near the surface of the earth. The cool nights and hot days always cause rocks to expand and contract. This movement can cause rocks to crack and break apart. The entire process is a physical process.

Hence rusting makes iron brittle and flake by a chemical process while mechanical weathering break rocks in pieces by a physical process.

The table below lists norm al and abnormal events. Explain why some events would never happen normally.

Beacause of lack of force in all three scenarios.
In scenario one there’s two forces acting in the bottle atmospheric pressure and gravity.Gravity keeps the ball at the lowest pointwithout force resisting it.
Umber two there’s no other force greater than gravity that would cause movement to the apple..
And number three there are isn’t any force acting in the rubber band greater than the elastic force to make it stretch
Hope this helps and mark as brainliest if you thought it was most helpful :)

What is not a mass of 1 mole of a substance?
Alenkinab [10]

Explanation:

been defined in such a way. It is defined as the numbers of particles in 12 g of 12C. If it were 24 g instead of 12 g, then the weight of 1 mole of substance would equal 2 times the atomic/molecular mass in grams.
