In order to determine how many pennies John has in each box, we have to divide 2,456 (total number of pennies) by 3 (total number of boxes). This means there are 819 (rounded) pennies in each one of John's boxes.

X - Intercept
f(x) = -x² + 4x - 4
   0 = -x² + 4x - 4
   x = -(4) +/- √((4)² - 4(-1)(-4))
                         2(-1)
   x = -4 +/- √(16 - 16)

         -2                   -2
   x = 2               x = 2

The solution to the problem is {2, 2}, or {2}. The x - intercept of the problem is (2, 0).

Y - Intercept
f(x) = -x² + 4x - 4
f(x) = -(0)² + 4(0) - 4
f(x) = -(0) + 0 - 4
f(x) = -0 + 0 - 4
f(x) = 0 - 4
f(x) = -4

The y - intercept of the problem is (0, -4).

Problem in the attachment
TEA [102]
You can solve this by multiplying each numerator by the answer choices and trying to divide them. I can't get the fraction maker to work at the moment, so I'll write the calculations on a separate attachment.

As you can see, the only choice that works to eliminate both fractions is the fourth choice, 50x.
